Apostille is a legal recognition of the validity of documents issued by authorities in Ukraine that will be used abroad. Apostille became an alternative and is a universal certification procedure for documents issued in Ukraine beyond it’s borders. In contrast to the consular legalization, Apostille certification requires much less time and an apostilized document may be used in more than one country.
If you are going to another country for study, work or permanent residence you may need to take all documents certifying the education that have been obtained in Ukraine. To make domestic documents valid abroad they are required to undergo the procedure of consular legalization or apostilization, unless countries are in an agreement abolishing or simplifying the document legalization procedure.
Ukrainian entities authorized to issue Apostilles are the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is authorized to affix an Apostille to public documents related to the areas of science and education such as high school certificates, diplomas, academic statements, professional advancement program completion certificates and statements, academic degree diplomas and certificates and so on.
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine issues Apostilles for documents issued by justice entities, courts as well as documents prepared by Ukrainian notaries.
For all other documents Apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
