Why Should You Pay for Consultation?

There is so much information out there on any subject these days. Why should you still pay for an expert consultation? Why is it much cheaper to pay a consultation fee than to dig through free information by yourself?

All of us know and many people like strategies such as: Try before you buy, Take a free sample, or maybe even a test run to see if it is a good fit. Many may think a free strategy session is a show of good faith – agency knows they are good and willing to give up some of their time to prove it.

But on the other hand – giving away time, our most precious commodity, says a lot about how we value ourselves. It communicates to everyone that we don’t value our time very highly. It also says we don’t have enough of paying clients, so we have time to give away to potential customers.

Both abovementioned statements may be correct, but we have just surprisingly discovered that even short free consultations offered to our loyal clients whom we know for many years do more harm to them than valuable service. We would like to share a shocking story that we have just found out from one of our really loyal clients.

We have a client from New York. His name is Michael, 51 years old divorced man who is desperately looking for a wife in Ukraine for a couple of years. We have checked 12 ladies over the last 3 years for Michael. Those were different checks – from simple background check up to complete detailed background check followed by 2 weeks of surveillance of his girlfriend in Odessa. She was actually his girlfriend – the one with whom he had sexual relationship and they were dating for 7 months, not like many men call a lady that they have just met online their girlfriend. Needless to say, we provided many consultations to Michael over these years. Taking into account the amount of money that he paid us for detective services we must admit that we did not charge him for some quick consultations. Those were just questions about some ladies whom he continued to meet online after he broke up with his girlfriend from Odessa who refused to move to New York. She is indeed an honest lady, but because of her elderly parents who need continuous support and help as well as her 10-years old daughter who wants to stay only in Odessa, unfortunately Michael had to break up with Irina. He continues to look for someone else who would agree to move to the US where he has several businesses which require ongoing control and attention from him and cannot be run remotely.

Yesterday we found out that Michael was scammed by a lady from Nikolaev. It appeared that Michael was sending her money even though we always told him never to do that without verified information for which purpose money were needed so urgently. Moreover, Michael had been communicating with that lady through online agency for almost a year, but was telling us that all chatting was via WhatsApp. In total he lost with only that lady more than 27,000 US Dollars on payments to dating site and transactions that he had sent her by Moneygram.

Michael was chatting with a lady through dating Web site paying on average 150 USD for each chat session twice a week for almost a year even though he knew her direct phone number and she had WhatsApp installed on her smartphone! Reason for that as lady claimed – her smartphone was very old and WhatsApp worked very slowly… But when she needed money, WhatsApp seemed to be working all right!

We asked Michael: why didn’t he listen to our advice? His answer was shocking indeed! It was because we provided most of those quick consultations free of charge. He was ignoring 90% of valuable advice that he got from us for free! We later agreed that if he would get and Advisor package from us – it would have saved him 27,000 US Dollars!

This case once again proves a well known point: People always value what they pay for. If we offer the same information for free, or after a client has paid for it, clients will more seriously consider what they paid for. If clients value the information more, not only will they value us more, but they are also more likely to listen to the information and implement it.

You will be surprised that we have already noticed such effect before with several other clients. Those clients lost much less money though, but such situations were happening once in a while. Maybe there are more such cases which we do not know of. We thought that charging extra for simple quick consultations those clients who order several investigative services eventually paying several thousands of US Dollars for them was not quite right. We thought that quick advices could be given for free as such clients who already worked with us would surely order again background check of another lady, a social media investigation or even surveillance service. But that appeared to be an absolutely wrong strategy that can make our clients unhappy, devastated and shocked after they get scammed eventually.

We have decided that as of today we will not be providing any more free consultations. Of course, initial first consultation which we call a Standard Consultation is free of charge. Purpose of Standard Consultation is to determine if prospective client indeed needs one or more investigative services or if one or more expert consultations will be enough without any progress in investigative services (that are not cheap even in Ukraine).
